A Psalm of David. Strive, O Yehovah, with those who strive with me: Fight against those who fight against me.
Take hold of shield and buckler, And stand up for my help.
Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against those who pursue me: Say to my soul, I am your salvation.
Let them be put to shame and brought to dishonor who seek after my soul: Let them be turned back and confounded who devise my hurt.
Let them be as chaff before the wind, And the angel of Yehovah driving them on.
Let their way be dark and slippery, And the angel of Yehovah pursuing them.
For without cause they have hidden for me their net in a pit; Without cause they have dug a pit for my soul.
Let destruction come upon him unawares; And let his net that he has hidden catch himself: With destruction let him fall into it.
And my soul shall be joyful in Yehovah: It shall rejoice in his salvation.
All my bones shall say, Yehovah, who is like you, Who deliver the poor from him who is too strong for him, Yes, the poor and the needy from him who robs him?
Unrighteous witnesses rise up; They ask me of things that I do not know.
They reward me evil for good, To the bereavement of my soul.
But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I afflicted my soul with fasting; And my prayer returned into my own bosom.
I behaved as though it had been my friend or my brother: I bowed down mourning, as one who bewails his mother.
But in my adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: The wretches gathered themselves together against me, and I did not know it; They tore at me, and did not cease:
Like the profane mockers at feasts, They gnashed at me with their teeth.
Lord, how long will you look on? Rescue my soul from their destructions, My darling from the lions.
I will give you thanks in the great assembly: I will praise you among many people.
Do not let those who are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me; Nor let them wink with the eye who hate me without a cause.
For they do not speak peace; But they devise deceitful words against those who are quiet in the land.
Yes, they opened their mouth wide against me; They said, Aha, aha, our eye has seen it.
You have seen it, O Yehovah; do not keep silent: O Lord, do not be far from me.
Stir up yourself, and awake to the justice due to me, Even to my cause, my God and my Lord.
Judge me, O Yehovah my God, according to your righteousness; And do not let them rejoice over me.
Do not let them say in their heart, Aha, so we would have it: Do not let them say, We have swallowed him up.
Let them be put to shame and confounded together who rejoice at my hurt: Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves against me.
Let them shout for joy, and be glad, who favor my righteous cause: Yes, let them say continually, Yehovah be magnified, Who takes pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.
And my tongue shall talk of your righteousness And of your praise all the day long.
