Mark 7:19
because it does not go into his heart, but into his belly, and goes out into the latrine? —cleansing all foods.
ὅτι οὐκ εἰσπορεύεται αὐτοῦ εἰς τὴν καρδίαν ἀλλ’ εἰς τὴν κοιλίαν, καὶ εἰς τὸν ἀφεδρῶνα ἐκπορεύεται; —καθαρίζων πάντα τὰ βρώματα.
Compare with the ASV
because it goeth not into his heart, but into his belly, and goeth out into the draught? This he said, making all meats clean.
We printed only what the Greek has: the ASV's supplied words "This he said" are removed, and the last phrase reads "—cleansing all foods."
Why
"This he said" is not in the Greek
The ASV supplied the words and printed them in italics to show they were added.
More
This version renders only the words in the text.
καθαρίζων
is a present participle, "cleansing." The Greek does not say who or what does the cleansing, so the English leaves it unattached as well, set off with a dash.
The manuscripts differ
SBLGNT reads καθαρίζων (masculine).
More
The Byzantine text reads καθαρίζον (neuter), which the KJV renders as part of the sentence: "purging all meats." We follow SBLGNT.
βρώματα
means "foods." The ASV's "meats" is older English for food in general, so "foods" says the same thing in modern English.
ἀφεδρών
is a latrine.
More
The ASV's "draught" is an older English word for the same thing.
"This he said, making all meats clean" (ASV); "purging all meats" (KJV).
